Men's Ministry

The Coker Men's Ministry's mission is for every man at Coker to be connected and growing in a relationship with Christ and other men through fellowship, study, and service.

It is time for the men of Coker to become vital and active members of the body of Christ!  And we at Coker are committed to doing all we can to provide opportunities for our men to do just that.  For more information, please contact

Coker United Methodist Men (UMM) Ministry and Fellowship Opportunities

Men’s Ministry at Coker offers a variety of ways for men to grow spiritually and become involved in Christian service as well. See the items below to see how you can become involved. The list is not exhaustive and other information is provided in the Courier and the Coker connection.

UMM Monday Morning Breakfast

The men meet every Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. in room 703 of Wesley Hall for breakfast, fellowship, Bible study, and singing of favorite hymns. All men at Coker are invited to attend. The menu varies with everything from eggs and bacon to breakfast tacos. No one leaves hungry. The meeting ends at 7:30 to allow folks to get to work or to other activities for the day. Cost of the breakfast is $3.00 per person with no charge for first time guests.

United Methodist Men’s Charity Golf Tournament

The 16th Annual Harvest Golf Classic will be held on Friday, October 13th, at Silverhorn Golf Club. Start time will be 1:30. Registration will be available in the gazebo on Sunday’s starting in September. Contact Leslie Mallonee, 535-8301 or Tom Ellis, 508-0813, or any of the United Methodist Men if you have any questions. Last year the tournament raised over $20,000 to be used for worthwhile causes.

Gathering of the Women

Each October the United Methodist Women host the Gathering of the Women for all UMW members in the district. The UMM act as servers for this dinner to show their support of the women.

Each November the UMW conducts Cokerfest, a craft fair, as a way to raise funds for their mission projects. The UMM assist them by setting up the booth areas as well as other assistance to the women as needed.

 Grill Your Own

As an opportunity for fellowship for those who cannot attend the Monday breakfast the UMM hold Grill Your Own Events from time to time at 6:30 on Thursday evening. Men can bring their own meat and it will be cooked on the new UMM grill. The UMM provide side dishes and tea or coffee. After dinner and fellowship there is an informational presentation on a variety of topics. The focus of this meeting is for men to gather for fellowship.

Sacred Harp Dinner

The Sacred Harp singing convention convenes at Coker over a weekend each February. To support this activity the UMM prepare Sunday dinner for the attendees. This is an opportunity to fellowship with individuals from all over the country and even from foreign destinations.

Wounded Warrior Dinner

Each August the UMM partner with the United Methodist Women to provide dinner at Ft. Sam Houston for Wounded Warriors and their families.

Bethany United Methodist Church Cold Weather Shelter

The UMM partner with Bethany UMC by providing the food and the persons to prepare it for the Cold Weather Shelter. The shelter is open for homeless individuals on any evening during the winter when the forecast is for the temperature to drop below freezing. UMM has been supporting this ministry for the last 5 years with funds made available from the Harvest Classic Golf Tournament. UMM with a heart for service go to the shelter in the morning and prepare a hot breakfast for all the clients. We are always looking for additional individuals who are willing to cook and serve breakfast.

PATRIOTIC Pops Concert Dinner

The UMM provided a church wide barbecue lunch in conjunction with the music program's annual concert on July 3. This will be an annual event.
