A Gift for Advent

The members of the Spiritual Enrichment Committee will give Advent devotional booklets to people who attend one of our five worship services on Saturday, November 22 & 29 and on Sunday, November 23 & 30.  These booklets will be available before and after each worship service.  There will be a table set up near the entrance to the Saturday night Chapel service and the Sunday morning Celebrate! service and in the Gazebo on all three Sundays.  These inspirtational meditations were written by members and pastors of Coker UMC.  This gift is an opportunity to prepare ourselves spiritually for Christmas this year.

Recycle!

Last month, the children studied about God's creation and how important His creation is to each of us and how we can protect His creation.

On Sundays under the Gazebo, you will see one of the recycling trash cans the children decorated.  Please use this trash can to dispose of coffee cups, plastic bottles, etc.

There are also decorated trash cans in the John Gibbs Building and upstairs Rector for recycling.

Help with YuleTidings Lunches

Over the years, many of you have enjoyed the YuleTidings interesting and well-performed noonday programs and delicious lunches.  This year we have scheduled a guitar soloist, trumpet soloist, and the Reagan High School Chamber Orchestra for these outstanding programs.  However, in order to continue to have delicious lunches, we do need your help.  This is your chance to be among the first to use Coker's newly refurbished kitchen by being in charge of one, two, or all three YuleTidings lunches.  Gail Hatcher has graciously offered to help with menu planning and amounts of food to purchase.

If you are willing and able to help, please let either Nancy Canavera or Gail Hatcher know of your availability.  Arts at Coker will be extremely grateful and thankful for your help and support of this series that is a vital part of our yearly events.

Coker Committee Structure studied

Coker’s Board of Disciples has created a task force to study the existing ministry and program committee structure and processes within the Church and to make recommendations on changes that seem appropriate. The existing structure has been in place for thirteen years and the Board wants to determine whether it is as effective as it was when first created. The task force has been interviewing Coker staff, committee chairs, lay leaders, and others knowledgeable of our committee practices and traditions, as well as leaders at other area churches in order to learn more about how they organize their ministries and programs. In June, questionnaires were distributed to all the current members of Coker committees, and they were asked to evaluate their committee’s activities. Results from this survey will be shared with the committee chairs and members, and recommendations will be developed for the 2009 Church year. Questions about this process can be directed to Bill Mitchell at 494-1815 or Pastor Barbara at 494-3455, ext. 242.
