Orchestranza Sunday, March 22, 2009 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary

An "Orchestranza" is an extravaganza of Coker Orchestra talent.  The Coker Orchestra is blessed with the best of talent from five different high schools, one middle school, Trinity University and UTSA.  Each year many of these young performers prepare to compete in the UIL contests for solo and small ensemble.  Sadly, these solos and ensembles are rarely heard apart from the contest itself.  The "Orchestranza" will change that and present a program of Coker Orchestra members in a variety of these solos and ensembles from across the spectrum of schools.  This program will present some of the brightest and best of youthful talent in San Antonio. We are pleased to have the San Antonio Choral Society as a part of the 2008-2009 "Arts at Coker" season.  This concert for the Choral Society will serve both as an end to their 44th season and a springboard for their 45th season celebration.  Following the concert at Coker, members of the ensemble will fly to New York City and perform in the historic Carnegie Hall.  Mozart's Vesperae Solennes De Confessore (K. 339) was selected as the piece to take to Carnegie.  This work is a standard in the choral repertoire and includes the ethereal soprano solo Laudate Dominum.  Other highlights of the concert will include Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus.  The concert will be accompanied by orchestra, and promises to be a wonderful afternoon of Mozart.  For ticket information, please visit www.sachoralsociety.org.
