The Coker Addiction Recovery Education (CARE) Team is a ministry of church members interested in providing education and recovery to all those affected by addictions.  Our effort starts from the very youngest to the very oldest members and all those in between.  Addiction affects one in four families, and Coker is not exempt from that statistic.  All too often families who are suffering from a member’s addiction don’t have an avenue to turn to.  At Coker, you do!

Do I have to be in recovery to be a part of the CARE Team?

No.  Anyone who is interested in providing prevention and recovery to families and people affected by addictions can be a member.  We meet the 2nd Monday of the month at 6:30 pm Wesley 802.  Just come if you want to become a member.

What education do you provide?

We are equipped to provide education/information on all types of addictions to everyone from the youngest to oldest members.  We have already provided education to the youth, their parents, and also to the Senior Adult Fellowship (SAF).  If your group or committee is interested, just let us know.

What benefit can the CARE Team provide?

Some of the long-term outcomes experienced by other churches with addiction ministries are:  fewer people experiencing alcohol and other drug problems; more people receiving help in the earlier stages of the disease; family members receiving support and assistance in leading healthy lifestyles and; congregations becoming more connected to local and national advocacy efforts.

Does the CARE Team take the place of 12-step recovery programs?

No, the CARE team is a resource to provide information and locations of 12-step recovery programs in the San Antonio area.

If you or a family member is struggling with addiction, you don’t have to do it alone.
If you want to become involved, there is no time like the present.
