Northeast Counseling Ministry

A Faith-Based Counseling Ministry supported by local churches

Millions of people struggle every day with mental and emotional issues.  Some choose to keep things to themselves, others may seek support from family and friends.  Still others have tried everything and continue to live in pain.  If you are struggling with issues that don't seem to resolve, we are here to help.

Annie Viers and Celese Inman are Licensed Professional Counselors who are highly trained in their field.  With different specialities that range from marriage and family to anxiety and depression to play therapy, they match you with the appropriate counselor and resources.  They offer their services at a very affordable, reduced rate for those who are members of the participating churches, including Coker UMC.

If you would like further information about the ministry or counselors, or if you would like to make an appointment, please call or email!  You can also visit necministry.org for more information.

Addressing Holiday Stress

Parents deal with holiday stress in many different ways. A recent poll by the American Psychological Association shows that 36% of Americans either drink alcohol or eat to cope with holiday stress. Forty-five percent say they rely on exercise to relieve stress while 44% turn to religious and spiritual activities. If you have a difficult time dealing with stress around the holiday season, here are some tips to help get you through and build resilience:
  • Set expectations. Talk to your children about expectations for gifts and holiday activities. If money is an issue, take this opportunity to teach your kids about the value of money and responsible spending.
  • Keep things in perspective. This is another opportunity to teach kids about the “reason for the season” and keeping things in perspective including what type of and the number of gifts they receive. Families can meet to determine what is appropriate and reasonable for their family.
  • Make connections. View the holiday season as a way to reconnect with family and friends. Accepting help and support from your church and/or community can significantly alleviate added stress. Volunteering at a local charity with your children can teach a valuable lesson and create a connection to others.
  • Take care of yourself. Pay attention to your own needs. Choose activities that you and your family enjoy and find relaxing. If you’re healthy, you are better able to handle stressful situations as they come.
