"Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me," he said.
"And anyone who welcomes me welcomes the One who sent me."
-Luke 9:48

Children, youth and adults grow in their faith, discipleship and service in the family of faith at Coker. Children are “seeds growing in the kingdom” through Children’s Sunday School, Children’s Church, Wed. Night Bible Adventure, 1st Friday Kids Klub, mission projects, summer camps, and Vacation Bible School.

Childcare is provided for all worship services, Mid-Week Manna and a variety of events. The Coker Early Learning Center provides a daily loving, safe environment for pre-school and Kindergarten children and their families.

“Our children truly like going to church because they are learning about God while having a great time.  We want to raise our children to be wonderful Christians and you need the help of your church but more importantly a good Children’s Ministry to accomplish this incredible task God has given us.  We found this at Coker UMC.”

Youth (5%)

God is impacting lives through Coker’s student ministries.  Student Ministries provide middle school through college-age youth the opportunity to find Christ, become a “family of faith,” learn about Christian discipleship, and reach out to others in mission.  Lives are touched weekly through Wednesday Night Bible Study, Sunday School, UMYF, and a variety of special activities.  Coker’s nine-month Confirmation program provides an invaluable transition from Coker’s fabulous Children’s Ministry to the Student Ministry program for incoming 6th graders.  This year 23 youth were confirmed as church members.  Many dedicated adult volunteers and pastoral staff make this program very successful. Coker's youth mission trips bless those who go, as well as those they serve.

"I love Coker youth group because we are like one big happy family.  I have made the most awesome friends here and I feel so comfortable with everyone.  I feel that God is doing some AMAZING things through us"
(Facebook message from 11th grader)

Our prayer is to see God’s continued blessings through the deepening and maturing of faith lived in student’s lives every day.  We thank Coker for the support provided to this ministry.

Adults (3%)

Adult ministry expenses include a wide variety of programs and ministries for adults, as well as the part-time Pastor of Visitation.

Coker offers Christian Education for all ages and stages of life.  In addition to 14 adult Sunday school classes, there are both daytime and evening short-term topical classes and long-term Bible studies.

"Our class is a supportive group where individuals are growing in faith and growing together as a group.  The prayers and support of the class help sustain us in daily life."

One in four families is affected by addiction.  The CARE Team promotes awareness, education and support for those in recovery.  Coker offers support in life’s crises through Stephen Ministry, Medical Equipment Loan, and Lovin’ Spoonful.  People connect through Athletics, Coker Adult Life Long Learning, Coker Men’s Ministry, Senior Adult Fellowship, United Methodist Men, United Methodist Women, and the Walk to Emmaus.

"The Senior Adults in this church are an active, caring, and fun-loving group.  There is always something to look forward to."

The Health and Wellness Ministry nurtures the body (health), mind (wellness), and spirit (wholeness) of our congregation and community.  It provides blood pressure checks, flu shots, blood drives, AEDs, health seminars, the Food Pantry and a family support program.

The Membership/Hospitality Committee provides the first face to visitors and members to make them feel welcomed, included, and loved by the Coker Congregation.
"It brings me JOY to see my new neighbors bringing their children to VBS, coming to worship, taking communion and enrolling in Bible studies!"

Spiritual Enrichment Ministries offer a variety of opportunities to help people connect with God through Advent and Lenten devotionals, classes, retreats, and walking the prayer labyrinth.

"Discovering my spiritual gifts has given me a clearer, more focused understanding of God's will for my life."

Music     (7%)

"Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth."
-Psalm 66:1

The Music  Ministry is involved every time a note is played or sung at Coker UMC.  Choirs, musical ensembles, praise bands, handbells, sacred dance, and outreach through music involve children, youth, and adults.

Coker's music ministry enables the congregation to express its faith in a variety of ways.  Music for every Saturday and Sunday worship service, special music programs at Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, the Patriotic Pops concert, the Arts at Coker and musicals have helped make Coker "a church with great music."  Your pledge to the 2011 Coker budget will help continue the great heritage of great music at Coker.

"We looked for three things in a San Antonio church home: a strong pastor, a strong music program, and a strong Sunday School program.  We found these at Coker.  We feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in music.  Music is inseparable from our worship experience.

Worship     (12%)

Worship includes the financial support of Coker's ordained clergy, as well as acolytes, worship resources and related expenses.  Coker UMC enjoys a variety of worship opportunities.

"Worshipping God at Coker is a wonderful and nurturing experience.  It can seem so effortless, but I've learned that it takes a Coker 'village' of clergy, staff, and volunteers to bring the worship experience to life."

Coker UMC enjoys a variety of worship opportunities, including five services each week (Saturday night Chapel, 8:15, 9:30, and 11:00 Sanctuary services, and 11:00 Celebrate! services), plus special worship opportunities during Advent, Lent and Holy Week, as well as bi-monthly Healing and Wholeness Services.
