What's Happening with our Children - Coker United Methodist Church

Coker UMC offers many opportunities for Christian growth. Our Sunday School meets at 9:30 AM and offers classes for two-year-olds through high school. In addition, there are many weekly and special events. Contact Cheryl Kendall, the Director of Children's Ministries, for more information on any of these opportunities. See the bottom of the page for a specific list of this month's activities.

"Children's Church" meets every Sunday during the school year, except the first Sunday of the month. Children meet after the Young Disciples sermon in the 11:00 Sanctuary service and Celebrate! service.
Joyful Noise, a choir for children in Pre-K and kindergarten. Rehearsals are every Sunday during the school year from 10:30 to 11:00 AM in Bertha Jones 206.
Coker Music Makers, a choir for children in 1st and 2nd grades. Rehearsals are every Sunday during the school year from 10:30 to 11:00 AM in room 401 in the gym.
Coker Children's Ensemble, a choir for children grades 3 through 5. Rehearsals are every Sunday during the school year from 10:30 to 11:00 AM in room 404 in the gym.
The Ministry of Acolytes (grades 3 through 5), who light the altar candles and help with the offering during worship. Training will be on Sundays, August 15, 22, and 29 at 12:15 PM in the Sanctuary. Please call 494-3455 x 260 to sign up so we can have materials ready.
Wednesday evening Kids' Bible Adventures, at 6:30 PM on the second floor of the Rector Building during the school year.
Vacation Bible School, featuring daily activities for kids for a week during the summer.
Summer Camps at the Mount Wesley retreat center.
1st Friday Kids' Klub and Kiddie Co-Op, featuring fun activities for kids on the first Friday of every month during the school year.
Other special events throughout the year.

Coker's nursery offers extra special care to our littlest angels. Your little ones are welcomed into our nursery by our wonderful staff of caregivers. They are loved and nurtured while in our care. We run background checks on all of our caregivers as well as reference checks. We have a child/youth safety policy in place that requires 2 workers at all times. We want you, the parent, to feel safe and comfortable leaving your child with us.

Child care is provided for Saturday and Sunday worship services, Emmaus, Bible studies, adult choir, AA, Families of AA, S-ANON, and a variety of other events. You can fill out our online Nursery Request Form to make reservations. Better yet, come by and meet our nursery staff. We are here to serve you.

During services in the Sanctuary, a cry room is available for parents of young children. This room, at the back of the Sanctuary, allows you to see and hear the service without worrying about disturbing those around you.

Coker also offers two weekday pre-school/kindergarten programs:

Mother's Day Out is a program for children 12 months through 4 1/2 years old. Contact Terry Ueckert, Director, for more information.
