To give you an idea of Casa Bethesda's needs and situation, the orphanage's overseer says the government is not providing support to his orphanage. At the last visit, he had 21 kids/adults with mental retardation and some people also had physical disabilities and used wheelchairs for mobility. He uses 70 diapers a day.
His basic expenses are:
- $3500 per month to take care of 21-25 people with disabilties 24/7. As a frame of reference, that's about the cost of 1 child with disabilities per month in the U.S.
- His "basics" are electricity, food, gas, water, diapers, cleaning and laundry supplies, and staff expenses
- He pays 4 staff members $200 per month each, and they work 6 days a week
- He pays 2 staff members $300 per month each, and they work 6 days a week
- He pays 2 teachers $300 per month each to provide school to his kids
- Total, this is $2000 per month for staff, which is amazing: his staff members earn only $2400 or $3600 per year for working 6 days a week
- $1500 per month is spent on utilities, food, diapers, and cleaning & laundry supplies
We have provided them with a lot of sheets, towels, and gloves for diaper changing, but everything else on the list is a significant need. CASH is a HUGE need.
