Seamless: Understanding the Bible as One Complete Story
Sundays, 9:30 AM, 7-Sessions, Beginning August 2nd
REGISTER HERE

Study Materials: Available from Lifeway, Click HERE

About the Study: I chose this study as it is an opportunity to pull back and examine the overall narrative of the Bible.   The description of the study’s intent to “help participants move forward with confidence in their understanding of Scripture” was also of particular interest to me as it can help those of us struggling to begin a study habit to feel more equipped to do so.  The study is 6 weeks long and appears to be a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and fellowship with other believers.

Class will be Led By: Meredith Chacon

About the Class Leader: Meredith has been a Coker member for over 10 years and is a life long Methodist.  She is the mother of two teenagers and has been married for just over 21 year to her husband, Raymond.  He is currently in his last year of seminary and plans on becoming a Methodist minister.  Meredith currently serves as the Leadership Council Chair for Coker and is involved in the Friends in Faith Sunday school class, is active in the Coker Emmaus community and has spent several years singing in the choir.   Meredith is a lawyer by day and spent 15 years prosecuting child abuse cases at the Bexar County DA’s office.  Now she is running a law office from home and relishing extra time with her family.   She enjoys studying the Bible and wants to engage with other believers in discussion and thoughtful reflection of the scriptures and how we can lean into God’s word to guide us in our lives.

Study of 1 & 2 Kings based on Lysa TerKeurst’s book, “Trustworthy.”
Sundays, 9:30 AM, 6-Sessions, Beginning August 2nd
REGISTER HERE

Study Materials: None Needed

About the Study: The study focuses on several themes including the prophets, the cost of compromise, the impact of leadership, power, and sin. From the author:  “Trusting God must involve both our actions and our devotion. …Our acts of obedience are evidence of where our trust truly lies.” When hard times come and it seems God is deviating from the plan we assume our lives should follow, we’re much more likely to want to tame God, not trust Him. It is then that we begin to press into our own ways and our own timing. No human can carry the weight of being their own god, but so many of us try. These two books of the Old Testament expose the depths to which mankind, in relationship to God, can fall.  King Solomon was a man blessed by God yet, he allowed compromises to ruin him. Most of the kings after him failed to serve God with all their heart and as a result, brought down their nation. Their behaviors, and the consequences, serve as a reminder of what happens when we fail to follow the Lord and his Word – when we fail to trust.

Class will be Led By: Patricia Noske, PhD

About the Class Leader: From Dr. Noske, “I’ve more than 40 years of experience teaching adults with a passion for learning.  I believe that we’re never too old to learn – that as long as we’re living, we have the opportunity to grow, to be better, to find new ways to serve, to dig deeper into our faith. And I believe that through that learning journey, we can develop the assurance that our trust in the Lord will be strong enough to make it to the other side when the hard times come – and they will most definitely come.”

Enemies of the Heart by Andy Stanley
Mondays, 4-5:30 PM, 6-Sessions, Beginning Monday August 3rd
REGISTER HERE

Study Materials: Book, Enemies of the Heart by Andy Stanley. Click HERE to purchase on Amazon

About the Study: In Enemies of the Heart, Andy Stanley offers practical, biblical direction to help you fight back, to take charge of those feelings that mysteriously control you, and to restore your broken relationships. The difficult circumstances you are dealing with today are likely being fed by one of four emotional forces that compels you to act in undesirable ways, sometimes even against your will. Andy Stanley explores each of these destructive forces-guilt, anger, greed, and jealousy-and how they infiltrate your life and damage your relationships. He says that, left unchallenged they have the power to destroy your home, your career, and your friendships.
